So, you can imagine my joy when one of the largest labs in the country (Glidewell Labs) says that after Oct. 1, 2016 they are not doing Feldspathic porcelain anymore (they are doing pressed on metal now).
Aluminum or not … I didn’t like it. And if you ask patients on your health history if they have an allergy to aluminum, you might find someone who didn’t know that their pretty white crowns had aluminum in it. And they may be someone who is trying to get healthy and doesn’t want their immune system taxed anymore that it is.
So, would you put a base metal crown in a patient who has an allergy to nickel, cobalt or chromium? How would you even know if the patient was allergic to any of those metals? And I won’t let you ignore the question just because you only use precious metal restorations.
There are plenty of guys/gals out there placing base metal PFMs (OMG …. base metals + Feldspathic porcelain?) … just trying to save a little money, I suppose.
Your dentistry will become more whole body dentistry … if you want it to.
